and outrage at men's pro sports.
There's complaints that the Hall of Fame accepts maginal players
as it snubs others that don't get in. The current state of the
A.F.C., baseball league standings, and a Bruce Springsteen
tribute.

%Title: AMERICAN MODELER: Scale Model News & Features Volume 2 Issue
4
%Descr: During one of our weekend shoping trips my girlfriend and I
stumbled across a Japanese Manga model shop. This place blew
us away. Incredibly detailed moldings of creatures from
ultramodern Japanese space fantasy movies. American
modelers, on the other had, are still fixated on antiquated
war machines and scale models of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
C'mon guys, get with the program, the Japanese got you beat.
There's a photo essay of an American military tank for your
modeling tips, auto modelers in North Carolina, manufacturer reps
talk about the industry, hot competition at the national
convention,
Events, ads, and tips too.

%Title: ROULEZ: The Newsletter for and about the Serious Mille Bornes
Player
%Descr: Volume 1 Issue 4 Winter, 1994
_Roulez_ is to Mille Bornes as _The Dick E. Bird News_ is to
bird watching. Beyond mere news and opinion about the
particular obsession, it's a parallel universe of fun and
surrealism with a unifying theme, but one with which I'm
completely unfamiliar.
In chapter four of Balance, the fictionalized account of the life
of the creator of Mille Bornes, Edmond Dujardin joins forces with
Ho Chi Minh to take on the Mob. He also admits to being the
assassin of Leon Trotsky. The Score Cards are interviewed, as is
Steve McQueen (from beyond the grave) about the epic Mille Bornes
matches that took place on the set of _The Magnificent Seven_.
The game _Touring_ is analyzed as an unsuccessful precursor of
Mille Bornes. The _Deep Space Nine_ crew is introduced to the
game and the new _Speed Racer_ is slammed. The new variants
include Mille Bornes Drag Racing, RouL.A. version 2.0 (including
car jacking), and a new car for the standard game: the Ejector
Seat.
I still don't know what the Mille Bornes fascination is all
about, but I *really* enjoy this zine.

The zine for people who legally keep guns at home and those
with concealed weapons permits. Mac writes nastagia about
old guns and reviews of new ones. Newswothy but relativly
gentile, with comentary that doesn't sound like an NRA
lobyist but just a good friend telling you neat stuff about
his gun shop.
This second issue has a responce to police prefering an "observe
and report" style of citizen involvement, a funny bit about
hunting dragon flies, reviews of .45 automatics, the facts about
computer background checks, opinions about non-dixcretionary CCW
permits, how to outfit a rifle for defensive perposes, and an
overview of leather holsters.

%Title: THE CHRONICLES: Otherwise known as: "He's not dead, he's ining
for the
%Descr: fjords." Issue 1
This Monty Python zine is funny, but chaotic -- so much so that
I'm not even sure if "The Chronicles" is it's name, it could be
the Michael Ellis Chronicles. At any rate, there's some great
Python stuff here, like "Ten Interesting Facts About Graham
Chapman" and reviews of Python books and albums. Much of the zine
is not directly about Python, but is instead, Python-inspired,
meaning the writing is very silly, but very fun. (P.S. to the
editor: that is, of course, Pigpen, all cleaned up.)

%Title: THE KAIJU REVIEW: The Journal of Japanese Monster Culture
Volume 1
%Descr: Issue 4 Winter, 93/94
Japanese Monster Movies, Godzilla garage kits, Ultraman
ephemera. This a zine for *serious* afficianados of kaiju
bunka.
Toho news, and news of an upcoming film from TriStar that
promises the "Jurassic Park" look for the next Amerigoji. And if
the $1,000 Marui RC Godzilla wasn't enough, there's a $500 RC
Mothra, and a $275 boxed set of Japanese monster movie
soundtracks. Stuart Galbraith explains why film and video
versions of Japanese movies pale beside the laserdisc versions.
A beginner's guide to Kaiju collecting and displaying. And the
big question: how big is Godzilla? What, there's nothing like
the Ultraman book that has the sizes of all the characters
(including 'vital statistics' of female characters)? Apparently,
Goji's size has changed from film to film. Plus some original
artwork and memorabilia.

writing. More than just a penpal exchange, the publisher
also acts as a maildrop for the subscribers. The
letter/personal ads are grouped by subject (like *Factsheet
Five*) for easy browsing. My favorate part (since I don't
have much time for letters anymore) are the "letter to Lex"
where readers talk about letters received and sent.
People wrote in comments why letter writing is easier then other
forms of communication, how to use the "firt in first out" method
of responding to letters, top 10 mail fantasies, and a Lewis

Far be it from me to mock anyone's zine concept, but I do
think the appearance of this one might signal the downfall
of civilization.
Issue one starts off snappily with news of how Des Moines
resident Tiny Tim survived last summer's floods (fine, thank
you). They're psyched that Tiny's coming to Lawrence. A review of
an unauthorized biography; cartoons; a couple of interesting
personal stories about meeting Mr. Tim; plus reprints of a

A mass-market wine magazine that retains a fiesty
down-to-earth spirit. Lots of major wine advertising but
editorially they're very agressive.
Jerry Mead explores the archaic laws restricting interstate
commerce in wine and the healthy antionxidant effects of wine.
Lots of ads for helpful wine tools & products. Unfortunately it's
still too "upper" for my wine styling. Anything around $6.00 a
bottle that tastes good OK by me.

three years later, then you gotta pick this up.
Darn good and getting better with each issue. This one sports a
beautiful color photo of Julee Cruise in honor of the long
interview with Julee about her previous work and new album. Last
August the Twin Peaks Fan Festival was held in Washington and
there's a big report (including lecture transcripts) of the

%Title: LET'S ANIME Issue 4 Autumn, 1993
%Descr: A zine by and for folks who appreciate the epic,
well-crafted anime that was created from the 60's through
the 80's, and not the formula crap of today that is passed
off as anime.
This issue tells you how to subtitle films yourself. I mean, if
you speak Nihongo and have the time and about $3,000 worth of
equipment you could probably do a better job than what's out
there now. And you have to have a lot of respect for a zine that
slags "Silent Mobius" as, "a tragic waste of cel paint and
acetate" and goes bonkers over "Prince Planet," "Giant Gorg" and
"Fairy Princess Minky Momo."
